Types of Fire Suppression Systems

Everyone cares about fire safety, whether he is a house owner or property owner, and they know that fire suppression systems are vigorous for preventing the spread of fire and protecting valuable assets. The major role of any fire suppression system is to detect fire and suppress it as soon as it starts and also preventing the fire from spreading. The fire suppression systems offer various levels of protection, and there are many types and sizes of fire suppression systems.

Let us get started!

1. Water Mist Fire Suppression System

A water-based suppression system is the bare minimum requirement for fire suppression for many buildings and kinds of businesses. Water is naturally safe to people, and the water mist fire suppression system uses 50 to 90 percent less water than any traditional fire sprinkler. Water mist systems are connected to a building’s water supply or connected to a tank or reservoir in remote locations for continuous fire-fighting capability.

However, it’s also not the most effective kind of suppression system for every circumstance as water can be more dangerous in the presence of certain types of fires. This particular type of fire suppression system may also cause horrible damage to your property, requiring ample cleanup.

2. Chemical Clean Agent Fire Suppression System

Chemical clean agent type has unique properties that might lend themselves well to differing fire types. ECARO-25® (HFC-125), FM-200 (HFC-227ea), 3MTM NovecTM 1230 Fire Protection Fluid, and others are chemical clean agent type systems that offer fast-acting, and most importantly, people-safe fire-suppressing solutions. Clean agents protect irreplaceable assets, such as computers, servers, electronics, artwork, archives, and more by not producing any of the damage often associated with traditional water sprinkler systems.

3. Inert Gasses Fire Suppression System

Inert gasses such as nitrogen, inergen, and aragonite, argon and CO2, or a combination of two or more are very useful fire suppressants, which reduce oxygen levels to a point where combustion cannot be sustained. They can extinguish fires by smothering them, displacing, or reducing oxygen. Inert gasses are ideal for situations where valuable or sensitive equipment needs to be protected, and they are safe for both people and the environment.

4. Carbon Dioxide Fire Suppression System

Carbon dioxide fire suppression system (CO2) is the oldest of the clean agent systems out there and inexpensive as compared to other clean agents. This type of suppression system provides a heavy blanket of gas that reduces the oxygen level to a point where combustion cannot occur.

Benefits of Fire Suppression System

  • A dry application technology - fire suppression system won't damage property and is ideal for application in computer rooms or areas with electrical equipment
  • An eco-friendly fire fighting equipment
  • The gases are inert and won't affect breathing
  • Compact cylinders, thus less space is occupied
  • Extinguishes fire quickly and efficiently
